Some Etsy inspiration…

It’s true, dear reader. I like you. In fact, I like you a lot. Enough to share this recent discovery with you. It’s tempting. Tempting, that is, to keep this little treasure to myself. But let’s be honest…the excitement is just too much to handle. This girl has gotta shout it out!

So I present to you, my friends, the lovely Katie Daisy. Tucked away in the Smoky Mountains, this wandering artist is inspired by the countryside and her travels. The Wheatfield, her Etsy shop, is one stage on which this chica can shine! Enjoy the little sneak preview here before you mosey on over to check it out!

The ‘Etsy’ Bitsy Pottery

In the current issue of Southern Flourish Magazine, we showcased some beautiful handmade plates uniquely designed by Asya, an etsy creator and seller.

Asya’s designs are inspired by her upbringing.

“Originally from St. Petersburg, Russia, I spent my early childhood summers at my family dacha, a Russian country house. A gathering place for friends and family and surrounded by my grandmother’s carefully tended gardens and apple trees, the dacha is a source of endless inspiration for my organic porcelain shapes,” Asya states.

She describes herself as being “quirky,” and her pottery as “imperfect.”  This beautifully structured and painted organic bowl is her favorite piece she creates.

All of her pieces are dishwasher safe and appropriate for everyday use.

Visit her shop and view her pieces at http://gleena.com/index.php

Thank you, Asya!

Welcome to the Buggy Capital of the South

0 Comments so far

Let’s take a trip to a quaint little town located just an hour south of Atlanta and 20 minutes off I-75:  Barnesville, Georgia, fondly known as “the Buggy Capital of the South.” It’s true–these fine Southern folk were top notch buggy producers here in the South. We must take a spin around the town…it shouldn’t take too long…really.

This relic of a building, now a local spa and salon, once was a showroom for these famous buggies. Oh, to see this beauty in all its glory! I feel like a young Southern Belle just thinking about it…

Shall we meander down Main Street? The buildings are just steeped in history. (That’s the original Carter Drugs sign from 1948!)

And did I mention this is THE main street. Indeed, the one and only. The downtown spans a whoppin’ two blocks. Oh yeah, and you’ll only encounter seven stop lights in the whole city. Small town, USA right here, people.

Well, I guess it’s time to head on out of town. Don’t miss your train! And I’ll see you back here in September for the annual Barnesville Buggy Days!

Did You Own One of These??

Chances are, if you lived where summers were pretty warm, you probably owned one of these… a WATERMELON dress!!  And the truth is– they never go out of style. Little girls today are still wearing them. It’s the perfect time of year for watermelons (the food…and fashion).

I think we all had one.

In her book, Puttin’ on the Grits, Deborah Ford reveals secrets to southern hospitality. Grab a copy for easy entertaining!

I love the sound of a true Southern Belle! Southern tradition has taught us to always dab our lips after nibbling, nevah forget our pearls for a dinnah party, and always remember to serve the sweet tea for an afternoon of gossip on the porch…

She knows true southern charm!

It’s pool time!

Is it August yet? It certainly feels like it! That summer heat comes, and I’m ready to hit the pool! Starfish and Sundresses seems to agree according to her recent post. We found some of her images inspiring…

Don’t these photos make you want to shimmy into the nearest swimsuit and dip your toes into the pool? (That is, if you haven’t already dove head first.)

I spy with my little eye modern twinsies here and here.

Don’t you think she would fit into this scene nicely?

See you at the pool side!
