Running on Southern time

Ladies and gents,

Please accept my apologies for the recent sabbatical on the blog! It seems I have been running on Southern time…aka just a little harmless tardiness, right? But I’ve missed you all so, and I think it’s time to make a change! I’ve found a few time pieces that just might help me out…..

I’m thinking these Michael Kors watches are a must!

Behind the Scenes with Starr Luna

Comments Off

I present to you today, sweet friends, fashion with art and soul. Mother-daughter duo–Mary Ann Casey and Starr Vermuelen–have combined their passions to create the one and only Starr Luna, a company that gives to the people an inspiring message on a good ole graphic tee. Think fashionable meets comfortable meets expressive meets artistic. See for yourself…

1. How did Starr Luna come to be?

My daughter Starr and I have always been interested in fine art and fashion. I grew up loving to paint and do pretty much anything that involves art. Ever since Starr was younger, I have been making and designing her clothes as a hobby. Starr developed a great interest in fashion at a young age: she modeled, worked in fashion and completed a Fashion Merchandising degree at Auburn University. In 2008, we decided to merge our passions and take on creating our own clothing line. We observed that there weren’t enough understated and vintage tees in the industry and thought that we could create a line for that as a way to express our creative loves. We then decided on the name Starr Luna, which comes from my mother, as she always called Starr that when she was a little girl. So then we took on the business risk. We are so glad we did–we are not being sold in 300+ stores internationally!

2. Where does your inspiration come from?

Our faith and passion for our art and fashion, our friendships, women, nature, love for our country, a desire to encourage and motivate others, our own muses and our families.

3. What challenges do you face in this business?

Well first of all, Starr is a mother to four very active children, which makes it very challenging at times to manage the business and go to markets while also being the great mother that she is all at once. She works hard to prioritize and do it all! I also stay very involved wtih my art work, traveling to different art shows. I also have a love for writing, so that keeps me busy as well! And well, with the economic climate as it is, we have to work even harder. That still doesn’t stop us-working hard is our nature!
