Your path to creative success will look very different from friends, family and those you read about online. In this seminar, you’ll hear how left-brained Kate and right-brained Olivia took two very different paths to creative, personal and professional fulfillment. What’s more, Kate and Olivia will discuss challenges they faced along the way, how they stay motivated, and techniques they use for staying inspired. Then, Kate and Olivia will use their expertise to share innovative tools for carving your own creative path.

At the end of the seminar, you’ll have the tools you need to take the next step toward creative freedom.

Our issues are full of so much great content that we’ve decided to start posting our greatest hits to the website, too! Here’s a favorite from our Summer 2010 issue.

Timeless Bohemian
By Lesley Graham

Carrie and I talked about what I would wear to the Oscars: “something similar to Michelle Williams’s yellow dress, red lips, vintage, glamourous.” I was asked to describe my dream home: “Easy. Restored farmhouse, new retro appliances, exposed beams, fresh cut flowers, big porch with a swing.”

It was so liberating to answer questions based on dreams rather than budgets. I think we all live trapped by what we perceive to be in reach.

As we wove through the questions, some easier to answer than others, I found that I did really know what I like and what I don’t like. I have a pretty firm grasp on my ideals, my personal style, and even my weaknesses. After we hung up the phone I waited to call Carrie back to get my “statement,” Timeless Bohemian. Although sort of a contradiction in itself, I felt she hit the nail on the head. I love things that are classic (read:old-fashioned), but I also love beating to my own drum and having a quirky sense of style. I walk away with a greater understanding of how both sides of my personality can work together and a goal of caring less about what others think!

Blog of the Week: Piewacket

We here at Southern Flourish love a good blog written by a Southern gal. So, we’ve started a new blog of the week feature! This week we’re showcasing Lara of Piewacket.

Lara is an insanely talented commercial and editorial photographer based in Atlanta, GA. As one might expect, her blog is oozing with great photography and styling, and an endless supply of inspiration. I went bananas for a recent photo post highlighting the gorgeous clothing line of Lesley Evers.

Her photos from a shoot with the daughter of a friend also left me mesmerized. Stunning.

I love that Lara writes so fondly about her life in Atlanta. The photos of her dinner at Yeah! Burger made me want to hop on a plane and try one for myself!

Finally, we both have a love for Showtime’s Dexter.

5 Questions for Lara

Where do you find inspiration for your blog?
I joke that everything has become a potential blog post but it is true. Daily life is my main inspiration, I’m just looking at my world in a new way since I started my blog.

How does Southern culture influence your blog?
Not being a native southerner, I am charmed by what many might take for granted. Be it the blooming of magnolias and dogwood to a good biscuit or BBQ joint. It is all new and exciting to me.

What is your favorite place in the South to visit?
I have been to Savannah twice and love it. Though not since I started Pie, so I would love to go down and devote a week exploring it with my camera.

Favorite Southern tradition?
Courtesy. People just have better manners here.

The Tennessee Barn Project

Our issues are full of so much great content that we’ve decided to start posting our greatest hits to the website, too! Here’s a favorite from our Summer 2010 issue.

Text by Liza Graves | Photography by Bridgett Ezzard

Jake and Luke Herring like to refer to their hand crafted furniture as Modern Rustic. This also happens to perfectly describe where they have set up shop in the beautiful rolling hills of Williamson Co, TN, just south of Nashville.

The Herring brothers, both in their 20’s and originally from Oklahoma, had a dream: to open an eco-friendly green construction company and call it Natural Design. They did just that but the downturn in the economy had them searching for ways, outside of construction, to add more green projects to the books. Fate intervened with a chance drive-by of an old barn slated for burning. Immediately inspired by all the repurposing possibilities this old weathered wood could accomplish, they bought the barn, saving it from death and giving life to a new side of the Natural Design company: TN Barn Project furniture.

…to her smart, clever and inspiring Thirty Before 30 quest, we simply love hello, splendor.

5 Questions for Beth…

Where do you find inspiration for your blog?
In everyday life! As I go about my day I come up against a dilemma or a thought and think of ways I can apply it to a post. I always try to share things that apply to my life so that it’s accessible to other people, as well!

How does Southern culture influence your blog?
I am very influenced by modern Southern culture! There are so many emerging artists and entrepreneurs in the South, especially Dallas. I try include local independent artists, eateries, and shops whenever possible.

What is your favorite place in the South to visit?
Hands down, Austin, Texas. It’s laid back and has a creative vibe. It’s a comfortable place to be that’s full of inspiration, plus Austin has an amazing music scene.

Favorite Southern tradition?
The State Fair of Texas! I must go every year. Great food, fun rides, and insane people watching.
